It's A New Dawn, It's A New Day

Today is Saturday.  This morning I woke early and made my morning espresso and listened to a light spring rain falling on the rice paddies.  My last morning alone is shrouded in a soft grey mist.

For over two years I've wondered if this day would ever come.  The day my Harry-bou would follow me across the world.  Today he did.  In nine hours he will touch down in South Korea with no return flight.

Ours has not been a love built under bright blue skies so it seems fitting that he should arrive amidst the sweet melancholy of warm spring showers.   Ours has been a Winter Sonata, a Miramax film, a Dickens tale.

However, our story is not over.  Instead we are entering a new season.  One that will build on the drama and suspense of the previous years, but with a fresh new perspective and a lighter pen.  This time we are going off script.  We are tossing out the formulas and letting our characters develop without consideration for the formula everyone says works.   This time around we are going for laughs, cheesy romance and a lot of slap-stick adventure.

Of course with any luck, the biggest change this season will be the weather and there will be bluer skies ahead.

A Love Story

The first time I knew love,
was on the tail of a ferry leaving France.
I stood alone and wept silent, painful tears
as chunks of my heart fell out and
mixed with the foam
the sea and the salt.
It felt as I was being torn from the arms of my mother.

It remains one of the most painful memories of my life,
as it was the first time my heart was broken.

That was when I decided I would do anything,
would give up every part of a normal thing,
to be with my love again.
I was seven,
when I lost my heart to travel.

I'd imagine that this must be how some people feel
about their children,
or their husbands,
or their careers.

For me though, my heart skips-a-beat
for foreign sounds,
unknown places,
smells I've never found before.

For the majority of my life
I've gone from one love to the next.
Chasing the always changing sunsets.
Wrapped in the vines embrace of new jungles.
Caressed by the winds of many mountain tops.

My heart skipped from one place to another,
avoiding the heartache of loving what I would lose.

That was until I came to Korea.
Now I find myself falling in love again and again.
Each time I turn around I feel like my heart has more room
for this beautiful, unique world.

It's not that I find it perfect,
but I find it perfect for me.
I accept it's failures,
and my insides go pitter-patter for it's charms.
For better or for worse,
I have fallen deeply, madly, passionately
 in love with this place,
with this Drama.

The Montage Episode

Mail + Scooter = Superhero

Today a little love arrived by scooter.
A late birthday present from Rock'n Rebeqa.
It was filled with delicious delights,
but truth be told,
the post-its sold the show.

Like a montage episode,
the notes remind me of our favorite plot lines
and end of season cliff hangars.
In my mind the scenes of our days on the beach
intercut with snowball fights
and long winters by the fire.

It's the perfect look back
on why my sister has and will always have
a staring role in my Drama.

Cast Favorite Leaves After One Season

Goodbye Norma Jean
 After only one season,
cast favorite NJ will be headed
out to head up her own, all new, law school drama.

However,  don't think this is the last you've seen of her.

We're currently in negotiations
for her to revive her Chang-like role
in future "on location" episodes.

Casting Call: Anjung Second Season

Since this K-Drama will been picked up for another season.
It's time to deal with the shake up of the cast.

Many of this years favorites have left the ROK
in search of a new story line, and a few more are soon to go.

The new cast has started trickling in but it's still too soon to tell

Who will join the ensemble?
Who will play a supporting roll?
Who will be the extras?

Rolling, Open auditions are currently being conducted.

 Applicants must have:
Snarky sense of humor
 Willingness for adventure
 Rabid self-awareness
Willingness to mock and be mocked
World food obsession
Solid sense of self
Abiding love of soju
Hobbies
 That "special" something extra

The list may seem daunting, but there has to be
chemistry, commitment, continuity
or the show falls apart.
And nobody wants a mid-season cancellation.

Finger crossed this isn't a live reenactment of
"Saved by The Bell: The New Class"

Excellent Priorities

The Coffee Prince didn't let me down.
Korea is in love with coffee.

They read my mind and my heart.
and they are adorable.
The stove is actually on and heating the pot.
with easy to read picture book menus.
For the record, I went with the cap and not the latte.
No matter the country
No matter the language
Coffee is always like a warm hug.
