I DID IT!! I learned Korean!

I am pretty proud of this piece of paper here.
I did it.  I completed the KIIP language course.
Hardest thing I have done in my life.

Of course, learning the language
doesn't mean I understand everything.
For example, I didn't realize
it was like a real graduation ceremony.

So here I am.
The idiot in zombies and sweat pants
at her own graduation.

There it is.
So beautiful.

Of course, now the real work begins.
Next step, culture class...

Hi! I'm new to your website and it's so nice to see a lot of information about the KIIP. :)
I'm currently taking the KIIP Level 2 class (46 hours down) but I'm a little bit confused what to do AFTER this level. So for example I successfully finished this level 2 class - is there an exam of sorts that I need to pass so I can move on to the next level (3)? Please help! :)

I saw this post and can't help but chuckle at the sweats for graduation. I'll keep that in mind when/IF I ever get there in a few more months. I'll have my sweats ready!

Yes! there are exams after each level. However, they do everything the can to help you pass. The next biggest exam will be after level 4. This one will be very difficult and if you don't pass you will have to take the class again. However, after the second time they pass you on to level 5 without even having to take the test. Once you hit level 5 (the last level) You can take the class three times. If you take the class three times they just pass you and give you the certificate even without the test.lol

Bev, I was so embarrassed. However, it did make the memory that much more fun, so I guess it's a win in the end.

Hello. As always, the information you have provided here has been very helpful to me. It's a bit weird, because you do the legwork and post the information here ..... and a few months later I use google and your blog comes up with more relevant information than the official channels.

You went and got your driver's licence, and I followed suit a few months later.
Now you're finishing your KIIP lessons, and I am just starting level 3.
It's embarrassing that I am only on level 3 after almost 5 years of self-study, but at least I am now on the right path.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Good luck with the culture class.... I hear it's quite a challenge

It makes me really happy to know that the information is useful! I started blogging about these more complicated "living here for real" things because there was so little information available before when I needed it. There is everything I needed (or didn't even want) to know about Mudfest, but almost nothing about the mystical KIIP program or taking the driving test.

Don't feel bad at all about taking five years for the basics. Going through the KIIP Course in 2.5 years nearly cost my my sanity. Hopefully I don't have to take level 5 a third time, but it's totally a possibility. lol I feel no shame in it.

Hello. I have a question. I am confused I didn't passed the exam of level 2 last year. Now I'm still studying Level 2. My question is do i need to take exam again for leve 2? Because of my hearing from other people/students they said I don't need to take exam, but other said I still need to take exam. That's why I am confused.
Hope someone can answer my question. Thank you

When I was studying, if you failed once the next time you did not have to take the test. You just pass to the next level. This happened to me in Level 4. I Do not know if the rules changed, but this was the rule when I attended. Many people also told me I would have to take the test again, but I didn't have to :)
